Members are invited to publicise events on these pages.  Events organised by non members but having appeal to cemetery conservation and heritage supporters will be considered at the discretion of the Secretary. We do not accept commercial advertising.

Weather, health and safety concerns and other issues may cause events etc to be postponed or cancelled and you are advised to contact the local group to confirm any detail nearer to the event. Please note that any guidance on health and safety should be followed and in some cases the ground may be wet, muddy and/or uneven and stout footwear and suitable clothing is essential for outdoor events such as walks. Many cemeteries were laid out in Victorian times and access may be restricted in parts for safety reasons. The closeness in the grave plots, vandalism and undergrowth may make access difficult for persons with mobility or sight problems. Cemetery managers and voluntary groups of Friends may in some cases be able to advise if there are any local facilities to assist disabled visitors such as an individual to guide a visitor [and their escort or helper] but this is best arranged prior to the proposed visit. Some cemeteries ban dogs, others may permit dogs on a lead and if you propose to take a dog please check first with either the cemetery manager or the local friends group.

Friends of West Norwood Cemetery

To increase knowledge and appreciation of the Cemetery, the Friends hold guided tours on the first Sunday of every month, 2.30pm April-October, 11am November-March. Cemetery tours start at the Cemetery Main Gate, Norwood Road, SE27. The tours last about an hour and a half. They include visits to the monuments of the most prominent individuals commemorated in the cemetery such as Sir Henry Doulton, Mrs Beeton, Baron de Reuter, Sir Henry Tate and Dr William Marsden. Talks (usually illustrated with slides) start at 2.30pm at Chatsworth Baptist Church, Chatsworth Way (off Norwood Road), SE27 (enter by second door on right in Idmiston Road). There is no formal charge for any event, but donations of £1 per person (50p concessions) to help cover costs and aid conservation work are appreciated. Non-members are welcome at all events. Enquiries to 020 8670 5456 or 020 8653 2741.
