The
Rosary Cemetery was the first non-denominational cemetery in the
country, licensed in 1821. The Reverend Thomas Drummond appalled by the
overfilled state of the churchyards in Norwich, built the terraced
cemetery on 6 acres of hillside just outside of the town. Today it is
cared for by Norwich City Council after a hard fought campaign to
prevent a modernisation which would have placed tombstones and the
terracing at risk. There is a fine range of Georgian and Victorian
monuments in a setting that has won an environmental award. There is a
fine selection of photographs of The Rosary on flickr.com
