Annual Day of Commemoration. The late Sam Weller had suggested a national cemetery and discussion at the BCAG had been whether the intended day would be to commemorate cemeteries or remembering the dead.

Gwyneth Stokes our secretary, representatives from Cruse and the Churches Funeral Group undertook to start it off with details of the Open Days arranged by several of the member groups.

The NFCF Committee welcomed the publicity that such a Day would bring but were concerned that Open Days are often supported by neighbouring groups of Friends and to hold a "national day" would dilute support whereas by spacing out the various Open Days [as is the current practice] allowed an inter mix of Friends visiting each other's events.

Funerary Monuments Group. A new advisory group has been set up to look at safety, ownership and protection of memorials. A copy of the minutes of the inaugural meeting had been distributed to members.

Keep Scotland Beautiful A national spring clean was to be held in April 2007 to encourage communities to take responsibility for their environment.

Sheffield's Anglican Chapel again threatened Sheffield Cemetery Trust last year persuaded a developer to withdraw plans but the developer has now intends to submit a  revised planning application to turn the chapel into a six bedroom house. The Trust has been working with a Save the Cemetery group.
