Friends of Lister Lane Cemetery
The BBC announced that the Friends group were awarded the prestigious BBC History Magazine History Matters Award 2006. In recognising the cemetery's important work in promoting Halifax's connections with the Chartist Movement the judges stated "the most successful and innovative project in promoting the value and importance in a community or local area in the UK." The Friends of Lister Lane Cemetery have become the first ever BBC History Magazine Local Ambassadors.
The prize awarded was the purchase of history books up to a value of £200 from Tempus Publishing, supporters of the award, a year's membership of the Historical Association and a year's subscription to the BBC magazine.
The March issue of the BBC History Magazine [on sale 27 February 2007] has an article featuring the work of the group.
