We hope to feature from time to time examples of the work of artists using the peace and solitude of the cemetery surroundings as a source of inspiration.

Bernard Lavell member of Southampton Art Society and Vice President of Friends of Southampton Old Cemetery often visits Southampton Old Cemetery which adjoins The Common.

An A5  booklet of his black and white sketches of headstones and memorials has been published in February 2007.
