The Friends of Redcar Cemetery

NEWSLETTER NO 17   APRIL 2006

After years of neglect, site visits were made by local councillors and council officials and Ged Fleming and the supporters were advised that the best way forward would be to establish a Friends  group to attract funding that was unavailable to councils. This has been in the short time that we have been established very successful, we now have thirteen committee members and on the practical side, have seen a boggy path of old flagstone made into a walkable road. Opened in 1870, the 25 acre cemetery owned by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council has two chapels and two areas still open for burials.
