National Federation of Cemetery Friends

.

AGM 2008

Friends of Tower Hamlets Park Cemetery hosted the event on Saturday 14th June. After interesting walks with wide appeal from history to ecology to monument conservation the delegates enjoyed a fine buffet courtesy of our hosts.

After the reports from the officers and election of officers delegates heard about proposals to encourage member groups to identify graves worthy of listing and listed graves in need of repair or conservation so that the Federation could enter into discussion with each national conservation authority. More details will be announced shortly.

The chairman of Friends of Margate Cemetery highlighted the need to encourage schools to use cemeteries as nature studies and connections with our social history.

Friends of Nunhead Cemetery have been very pro active and have produced a burial policy document on which they hope to persuade their local authority to use as a base in replying to the central government consultative paper.

With regret we learned that the Edinburgh Cemetery Support Group has had to disband through lack of support and the great efforts in the past of Irene Mackay and her colleagues was warmly applauded by the members.
