The committee is supported by a small panel of members who act as a resource in discussing issues such as monument safety, burial law reform and the future care of cemeteries. The current panel includes Robert Stephenson [Kensal Green and Brompton] Pam Gray [West Norwood] Don Bianco [West Norwood] John Avery [John Avery Heritage, Ford Park, Brompton and Southampton Old and webmaster of this site] and Carol Stevenson [Nunhead and newsletter editor].

The website is partly sponsored by John Avery Heritage and the remaining costs by the Federation.

The Funerary Monuments Group set up in 2007 following a proposal at the 2006 AGM held at Nunhead. One objective is: To advise members of the Federation on all matters pertaining to the safety, ownership and protection of monuments and other related issues.

The first meeting of the Group met at Brompton Cemetery on 15th February 2007 and members can view the Group's progress and recommendations on a separate page on this website.

The Doulton Mausoleum

Burial by moonlight. Such was the pressure during the cholera outbreaks [by law the body had to be buried within 24 hours] that the gravediggers and undertakers had to work around the clock. The enormous number of cholera deaths in 1848/9 brought about the the Public Health Act [1848] and many of the Victorian cemeteries opened about that time.
