Deane Road Cemetery [then known as Deane Street] Liverpool opened in 1837 to serve the members of the Liverpool Old Hebrew Congregation until 1904, when Broad Green Cemetery was opened. The cemetery fell into decline and decay and several attempts to restore it were halted due to lack of funds, until 2002 when the Groundwork Trust initiated the latest project. This is now run by a dedicated and diverse committee who have overseen some major improvements. Improvements have been made but this is an ongoing project and funds are being raised and active work is constantly being undertaken by a wide section of the community.
The cemetery features an impressive archway entrance, which is a Grade II listed structure in the Greek revival style, and there are memorials to many eminent Jewish citizens who contributed to Liverpool’s history.
